The Murphy-Reynolds-Wilson Volunteer Fire District encompasses 330 sq. miles in a rural desert area of Southwestern Idaho in Owyhee County. We are located about one hour from Boise, the state capital of Idaho and the home of the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
The northern part of our District, where the majority of our residents live, is bordered by the Snake River with two hydro-power dams. Just off our eastern boundary is a major multi-state disposal site for radioactive and hazardous waste. We cover 30 miles of state highway 78 where the majority of this traffic travels along with farm traffic and passenger vehicles.
We have many individual farms, ranches and private homes in our district as well as hiking trails, ATV recreation sites, camp sites and much more.
MRW has four stations with three being located along state highway 78, and the fourth in the remote Reynolds valley protecting a small community. Most of the stations are about 20 minutes away from each other.
We are called to a wide variety of emergencies from brush fires to house fires, vehicle accidents to back country ATV accidents, medical calls and even the occasional plane crash. We are usually busiest during the summer months thanks to the hot, dry weather and large number of outdoor enthusiasts the region attracts. The job of volunteering is sometimes difficult but always rewarding when you are able to help your fellow community members during their most difficult times.
